What Instruments Are in a Concert Band?

We ask that you decide which three instruments you would most like to play.  In early September we will meet with you to help you decide which of the three is most suitable to you.  Our decision will be based on several factors, including:
  • your preferences
  • physical characteristics that contribute to embouchure and playing position
  • your ability to match pitches, and
  • the instruments that are required to achieve a diverse group.
Please note that the large instruments (bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, trombone, baritone, and tuba) are not well-suited to younger players.

The instruments from which you may choose are as follows:
  • Flute
  • Oboe
  • Clarinet
  • Bass Clarinet
  • Alto Saxophone
  • Tenor saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • French Horn
  • Trombone
  • Baritone
  • Tuba
  • Percussion (snare & bass drum, and orchestral bells)
